Preparing the Future of Implant Dentistry

Hi DPR I recently completed the first Module of the Post Graduate Implant Academy's new course, and wanted to share my experience. It's always good to see more domestic options for implant training, particularly with a substantial live surgery component; this felt especially topical in light of recent stories about problematic overseas programs. This did not feel like a pilot intake. I found Module 1 to be exceptionally well-organised, delivered, and crucially, engaging. Despite nearly 30 hours of intensive lectures and hands-on learning over the 3 days, Dr Johan Weemaes and Dr Greg Fine's expertise and passion for surgery kept the content consistently compelling. I was very impressed with their ability to distil extremely complex concepts into clear and practical steps, that will be invaluable come live patient placement in three months time. A mountain of knowledge was covered over the 3 days: placement and planning protocols, atraumatic exodontia, soft and hard tissue preservation and augmentation, suturing, anatomy, treatment planning, and even broader full-arch concepts. Dr Greg and Dr Johan shared the frameworks, systems, and clinical reasoning that underpins all of their world-class implant work, which gave an enormous amount of clarity to planning and executing complex cases. What I particularly appreciated was how personable the program felt. There was a thoughtful emphasis on how to thrive in the field of implant Dentistry, which is a practical wisdom that can only really come through extensive real-world experience. Conversations around communication, patient experience, team utilisation, and efficiency, honestly felt as valuable as the clinical content. I can highly recommend this course so far to anyone, whether just starting with Implants, or someone wanting to build into complex cases and arch-work .

PGIA Implant Diploma (Module 1 Intensive) As a new graduate, committing to an implant diploma early in my career required careful consideration, particularly around finding a program that prioritises structure, safety, and guided progression rather than premature independence. The first module of the Post Graduate Implant Academy has delivered strongly on that. The learning environment was collegial, with a broad mix of experience levels and an emphasis on open discussion, which made it easy to engage and ask questions without hesitation. The module combined a solid theoretical foundation with practical exposure to suturing, grafting, and socket preservation techniques, giving me skills I can begin to integrate into day-to-day practice. Importantly, the course reinforced appropriate case selection, difficulty assessment, and referral thresholds, which, at my stage, is more valuable than simply feeling ready to place implants. The notes were provided digitally post-course, and the team have been active on messaging platforms in the lead-up and beyond, supporting case discussion and ongoing questions, which adds a layer of continuity to the learning. Under the guidance of Johan Weemaes and Greg Fine, there is a clear stepwise pathway to develop competence without exceeding your current capacity. The venue, organisation, and overall delivery were of a high standard. Overall, this has been a strong start and a worthwhile investment, and I look forward to continuing through the program with the same level of mentorship and structure.

PGIA ( Post Graduate Implant Academy) Postgraduate Diploma in Dental Implantology. I have completed a previous Post-Grad Dip in Oral Implantology. I really enjoyed the in-depth research base of my previous course. But going into my previous Grad Dip without any experience, I feel like there was a lot left on the table for me with regard to actually seeing patients, making clinical decisions and determinations with placement types/timings/grafting protocols. So I decided to do my 2nd Post Grad Dip with the amazing guys at PGIA, and it has been a real eye-opener so far. The amount of content we were able to cover with a sound research base was staggering for our first 3-day module. Whilst it was an intense 8am - 5am hands on and lecture-based 3 days, I felt energised the entire way through. The pacing of the content delivery was excellent, and I never reached the end of the day feeling exhausted or like I wasn't absorbing the information. Case discussions were encouraged, and we all collaborated together, with our wonderful lecturers Johan Weemaes and Greg Fine pushing us to use the knowledge we had gained to answer each other's questions. It was amazing how much the group had picked up and synthesised in such a short period of time. If you have always wanted to get into implantology and don't know where to start. I can state emphatically that I couldn't recommend PGIA more.
